Participation in the International Congress "Global Environmental Contamination: Challenges for the well-being of the human brain"

On 7-10 September 2014 Prof. Nina V. Zaitseva and Prof. Irina V. May took part in the First International Congress "Global Environmental Contamination: Challenges for the well-being the human brain" (Luxembourg, France). The Congress was held with the participation of scientists from France, Luxembourg, Germany, Algeria, Tunisia, Canada, Belgium, Morocco, Ecuador, Korea, Japan, Finland, Russia, the United States, the Netherlands.

At the plenary sessions and 17 sections detailed reports on global environmental contamination problems and associated impacts in the form of human brain morphological and functional disorders were presented. The Congress reports considered the research results (obtained in the experiment, epidemiological surveys, sampling and others), reflecting negative for the brain of humans and animals consequences of exposure to dioxins and dioxin-like substances, suspended solids of various fractions, a wide range of chemical compounds. Various scientific approaches to the organization and conduct of human tissues' and fluids' biomonitoring in terms of their contamination were considered.

Much attention was paid to the consideration and interpretation of methodology and assessment of the health risk under the influence of environmental chemical factors and their role in the formation of chronic incurable brain diseases.

From the Russian Federation the report on the topic "Biomarkers of ill health in children consuming drinking water of poor quality with a content of metals and organochlorine elements" was presented (authors - Prof. N.V. Zaitseva, Prof. I.V.May, DSc M.A. Zemlyanova). The Congress noted the statement consistency and a high level of the research results.
