Summarizing the results of the Conference in Perm

On May 21-23, 2014 in Perm the Russian research and practical conference with international participation “Current issues in health safety and health risk assessment under the influence of the environmental hazards” has been held. The Conference was organized within the framework of the plan of basic activities of the Federal Service on Customers' Rights Protection and Human Well-Being Surveillance (Rospotrebnadzor). It was attended by more than 200 experts of bodies and organizations of Rospotrebnadzor, research institutes and institutions of the Ministry of Health, Russian Academy of Sciences and other organizations from 64 regions of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Italy and France.

Senior and mid-level management of Directorates of Rospotrebnadzor, chief physicians and deputy chief physician of Centers for Hygiene and Epidemiology, managers and specialists of units of socio-hygienic monitoring, directors and specialists of 17 research institutes represented their regions.

More than 100 reports made within the plenary sessions, in four sections and poster session, reflected current research directions in the field of population health risk assessment under the influence of habitat factors, working environment, products, etc.

The particular interest was aroused by the reports on the analysis of health risk in order to improve the sanitary and epidemiological surveillance in the Russian Federation, to ensure the safety of products on the territory of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, to develop the Russian register of potentially harmful chemical and biological agents, to evaluate and manage professional risk of health violations in workers and others.

The conference participants were able to discuss methodological aspects and results of practical application of health risk assessment in the Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan. Complex scientific approaches to risk assessment used by the colleagues from the European Union were considered. During the direct teleconference with the office of the European Agency for Food Safety (Parma, Italy) a number of issues on exposure assessment in the risk analysis of food products has been discussed.

Within the framework of the conference a competition for young scientists was held. Among the winners are young scientists of scientific research organizations of Rospotrebnadzor from Khabarovsk, St. Petersburg and Perm.

Conclusions and recommendations reflected in the resolution of the conference are focused on improving compliance and enforcement and prevention activities of Rospotrebnadzor at the present stage, the development of public health monitoring and in general - ensuring sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population of the Russian Federation and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
