Participation in the 3rd International Form “Clean Water 2012”

The 3rd international forum “Clean Water 2012”, devoted to the solution of the urgent issue of the preservation and careful use of water resources, was held in Moscow on 6-7 November.

The forum programme included a roundtable “Clean Water is the Nation's Health”, which was moderated by Gennady G. Onishchenko, Head of the Federal Service on Customer Rights Protection and Human Well-being Surveillance. The following issues were considered at the roundtable:

  • The influence of drinking water on human health
  • Health risk assessment of drinking water quality in the regional monitoring system
  • On supplying the Russian Federation population with clean drinking water within the implementation of the Water Strategy until 2020, approved by the Regulation No. 1235-p of the Russian Federation Government on 27 August 2009
  • On the implementation of the measures of the Clean Water Federal Target Programme for the period of 2011-2017, which are aimed at improving the conditions of supplying high-quality drinking water to the population
  • On the objectives of the authorities and organizations dealing with water supply and sewerage within the implementation of the Federal Law No. 416-ФЗ on Water Supply and Sewerage as of 07.12.2011
  • The specificity of water supply in rural areas: problems and objectives
  • The implementation of new drinking water treatment and purification technologies
  • New methods and techniques in the system of laboratory monitoring of drinking water
  • The harmonization of drinking water quality and safety standards within the Customs Union and the WTO

Professor Irina V. May, PhD, DSc, Deputy Director for Research, took part in the roundtable and presented a paper entitled “Risk Assessment and Proving Health Damage when Protecting the Right for Safe Water Supply”.

The discussion at the “Clean Water is the Nation's Health” roundtable resulted in the development of recommendations.
