Scientific School

The Scientific School “Hygiene Diagnostics and Prevention of Environmental Health Disorders” was founded by Professor Nina V. Zaitseva, PhD, DSc, Fellow of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, in 1983.

Main Research Lines

  • Developing state-of-the-art innovative technologies in the field of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of diseases caused by adverse environmental impacts protecting the intellectual property rights.
  • Performing environmental impact assessment, identifying causes of non-infectious disease incidence and prevalence and infectious diseases modification associated with unfavorable environmental factors.
  • Developing technologies for assessment and management of environmental, occupational, social and other health risk factors.
  • Developing and implementing high technologies, methods for mathematical and situation modeling as well as prediction of systems and processes influencing human health.

Implementation of Research Results

Many years of research studies performed by the Scientific School team resulted in the establishment of Perm Region Research Clinical Institute of Children’s Environmental Pathology on January 17, 1995. In 2009, the Institute was reorganized into the Federal Scientific Center for Medical and Preventive Health Risk Management Technologies.

Today, Environmental and Hereditary Immunopathology Clinic annually provides specialized care to 43 000 children living in areas with elevated environmental health risks and adults with occupational diseases.

Main achievements

The main achievements are 619 publications including 10 monographs, 18 books, 4 atlases, 95 methodical guidelines, 110 journal papers, and 55 copyright certificates and RF patents for invention. Due to the consultancy support and under the supervision of Professor Nina Zaitseva 59 theses including 42 PhD and 17 higher doctoral theses have been prepared and defended.

Scientific conferences and seminars

Since 1995, seven conferences have been held to combine efforts in the fields of basic and applied research devoted to risk analysis and improvements in human well-being.

In 2010, the International conference “Hygiene, Medical and Preventive Health Risk Management Technologies” united more than 150 risk analysis professionals helping them share the latest advances in health risk assessment.

International Collaboration

  • The United Nations Development Programme: the preparation of sections “Ecology” and “Health and Public Health” for the Human Development Report (Perm Krai).
  • Denmark: According to the Agreement signed by Perm Krai Administration and the European – Russian Business Association (ERBA) – forum «Caravan of friendship «Russia - Denmark».
  • The USA: Collaborative research within the ROLL (Replication of Lessons Learned) Program in the field of implementing health risk assessment methods that lead to efficient, practical solutions to serious environmental health problems
  • Germany: TACIS Programme, Project: “Environmental Monitoring System in Russia”.
